A RESOLUTION
TO BE ENTILED AN ACT TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND SENATOR RAND

WHEREAS, Senator Rand was born in Garner, North Carolina
September 1st, 1939 and has been a life-long resident of the State
of North Carolina; and,
WHEREAS, Senator Rand attended the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts; and,
WHEREAS, Senator Rand graduated from UNC Law School in 1964
and has successfully practiced law in North Carolina since then; and,
WHEREAS, Senator Rand was appointed to serve in the North
Carolina General Assembly Senate in 1981 and won re-election the following year
and served in the State Senate until 1988; and,
WHEREAS, Senator Rand was elected to serve the 19th
district of the State Senate again in 1995 and has represented that district
since; and,
WHEREAS, Senator Rand has served as Senate Majority Leader
since 2001; and,
WHEREAS, In his role as Senate Majority leader he has been
consistently ranked as one of the SenateŐs most effective members and has
helped to shape and craft policy that consistently affects North Carolina State
University; and,
WHEREAS, During the current budget
crisis Senator Rand has fought to ensure that higher education was held as
harmless as possible; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, The North Carolina State University Student Senate recognizes
Senator Rand for his service to North Carolina State University and his
tireless support of higher education in the state of North Carolina; and be it further,
RESOLVED, The North Carolina State University Student Senate commends
Senator Rand for his willingness to come before the North Carolina State
University Student Senate this 28th day of October,
2009 to speak on issues of higher education; and be it further,
RESOLVED, The North Carolina State University Student Senate appreciates
Senator RandŐs support of higher education in the best interests of students as
he continues to serve as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly.
