Committee Minutes, Wednesday, September 16th 2009

Senator Sarah Lindh submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Wednesday, September 16th 2009, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, September 16th 2009 recommendations:

Attendance:

There were five (5) members (Ashok, D. Bascombe, Chiang, Goldsmith, Lindh) present.

There was one (1) member (Nelson) absent.

The following official was also present: Lipka.

A quorum was present.

Meeting Overview:

Government Operations met on a GLORIOUS Wednesday afternoon to discuss and edit future senate Attendance Policy resolution. Currently as it stands, it will be filed and noted under intent for fast track for the following Senate meeting (9.23.2009)

Also, the committee as a whole had a chance to meet, discuss, and vote on all Absence Request Forms filed for the upcoming SG Retreat (9.18.2009 - 9.20.2009). In the future, the Government Operations Chairman will review all requests along with one other member of the committee, which will be enacted once Attendance Policy Resolution is passed by Senate (9.23.2009)

Meeting Minutes:

The members of the committee read and reviewed the upcoming Absence Excuse Request Policy reform and included many changes to the resolution. The committee believes that this resolution will help with the continuing difficulties of absences within Student Government. The committee approves this bill and is open to answer any questions or concerns from the Senate body.

The following is the vote on each filed excused approval requests:

Celest Hurtig- (5-0) Approved for Excused Absence.

Abby Howe- (0-5) Denied Excused Absence. The request was not submitted in approved request form.

Madison Green- (4-1) Approved for Excused Absence.

Alex Lane- (4-1) Approved for Excused Absence.

David Bascombe Jr.- (4-0) Approved for Excused Absence.

Heather Chiang- (4-0) Approved for Excused Absence.

John Tucker- (2-3) Denied Excused Absence because the committee feels that Committee Chairman should be present at a mandatory SG event.

Brianne Bower- (0-5) Denied Excused Absence because the committee feels that Committee Chairman should be present at a mandatory SG event.

Erica Monique Brown- (4-0-1 abstain) Approved for Excused Absence.

Lakshmi Ashok- (4-0) Approved for Excused Absence.

Jeanne Chen- (5-0) Approved for Excused Absence upon correct documentation.
