Attendance:

There were four (4) members (Bloodworth, Brown, Hayes, Kosht) present.

There was one (1) member (Lane) (resigned) absent.

The following official was also present: O’Donnell.

A quorum was present.

Meeting Overview:

This meeting was called to discuss the Tuition Reconsideration Act.

Meeting Minutes:

The Tuition and Fees Committee Meeting was called to order by Senator Bloodworth at 6:25pm on October 21, 2009.

Tuition Reconsideration Act:

Senate must make a formal tuition increase recommendation…

The Tuition Review Advisory Committee suggests that tuition should increase by:

--In-state: $150.00

--Out-of-state: $200.00

Both increases would be for the year

We recommend the same thing… The NC G.A. will overall decide in February

The TRAC and the Tuition and Fees Committee both want to make the funds CITI funds (Campus initiated)

This means that the fees will come back to the university instead of going to a general fund that won’t be specific to NC State

Board of Governors likes to keep costs lower for in-state students

***Tuition goes to education, academics, teachers, classrooms, etc… UNLIKE fees***

Bloodworth: we need to add hard facts to the bill…

Hayes: when will this go into effect?

Bloodworth: next academic year

Bloodworth: we need to set up a meeting we all can be at for about an hour with Julie from the Office of Financial Aid to get more information

Bloodworth: we plan to delay this bill and keep it in committee until Senator Stevens comes to visit

Future of the Tuition and Fees Committee:

Bloodworth: we need to be thinking of what to turn this committee in to and ideas for how to continue it… Kelli has some ideas but I’d like for us to put some thought into it first.

Adjourn.
