Issues and Programs
Your Issues
An important part of Student Governments mission is to work to resolve issues that face you and your fellow students. When raising a concern to Student Government, you may want to contact either an officer with expert-ise in the subject area or your particular representative in the Senate. Organization Funding
Student Senate is responsible for allocating SG money, known as Student Body Funds. To be eligible for appropriation in most all cases, you must be a Registered Student Organization. Each spring and fall the Senate makes routine organizational appro-priations through an application process. The Senate will occasionally make a special appropriation for an event, program, or activity of special value to the Student Body. Interested parties should contact their Student Senator or the Student Body Treasurer at sbt@ncsu.edu.
Additional, Student Government encourages organizations associated with departments and colleges to investigate funding that may be available through their College Councils, the college-level counterparts to SG. A list of Councils is maintained at http://students.ncsu.edu/councils/.
Student Fee Review
Student Fees are used to support a number of student-centered programs throughout the University. Given the student driven nature of most of these programs, the University expressly solicits the position of the Student Government regarding fee changes. The Senate takes these matters very seriously, and the University frequently modifies or drops proposals after SG recommendations.
You are encouraged to report any mis-spending by fee supported organizations to Student Government for follow-up.
Projects and Initiatives
Service Projects
Student Government maintains a number of service projects on behalf of the Student Body. These include Service Raleigh, an annual day of service; Feed Raleigh, a competitive food drive amongst organiz-ations; and ReCreate State, a series of campus beautification projects. Students are encouraged to watch the SG homepage, students.ncsu.edu, for opportunities to participate in these and other projects.
Wolfpack Student Initiative
Unmet financial need is one of the greatest burdens on the Student Body. In an effort address this need, and to serve as a memorial to deceased members of the Student Body, Student Government established a scholarship endowment, the Wolfpack Student Initiative. Initiative officers are busy raising funds for this endowment, after having surpassed the first year goals.
Academic Integrity Education
Academic Integrity is vital to a scholarly environment, protecting the value of ones work and the Universitys degrees. The Judicial Boards and the Senate Academics Committee are involved in a number of activities to promote standards of academic honor. Board members conduct seminars on integrity throughout the year, including ones in several first-year courses.
Student Ticket Distribution
The Senate Committee on Campus Commu-nity coordinates distribution of student tickets to football and mens basketball games. The committee prepares distribution policies for approval by the administration and the Student Senate, as well as overseeing the actual distributions, including campout. All ticket information is available at http://tickets.ncsu.edu.
Voter Registration
State and Local leaders have an unfortunate reputation for ignoring college students when it comes to policy decisions. Student Government believes the only way this will ever change is if the politicians see students as a sizable voter block. Any student residing in Raleigh to attend NCSU is eligible to register to vote in Wake County. In months prior to an election, SG will be involved in registration drives on locations throughout campus. However, registration forms are always available in the Student Government Office, 307 Witherspoon.
Nightwalk
Nightwalk is a semiannual campus safety project administered by the Senate University Affairs Committee. Participants patrol the campus after dark, looking for poor lighting and other safety issues. Reports are complied and sent to Facilities Operations for action.
