GOVERNMENT BILL 82
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT TO PROVIDE REQUIREMENTS FOR REGULAR AND SPECIAL NOTIFICATION TO COLLEGE COUNCILS CONCERNING SENATE VACANCIES, APPOINTMENTS, AND MEMBERSHIP

WHEREAS, the councils of the various schools and colleges are constituted to represent the members of the respective colleges; and,
WHEREAS, the Student Senate is apportioned amongst the various schools and colleges and the Senators are tasked to represent the members of the respective colleges; and,
WHEREAS, the councils are only irregularly provided with information regarding Senators representing their respective college; now, therefore be it
ENACTED,
by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:Section 1. Student Body Statutes, §2-1, Rule 2(c) shall be amended by inserting " The President shall send appropriate notice to College Councils as provided by §2-3.9 of these Statutes." after "appointed to represent" so that Rule 2(c) reads:
"(c) Appointment to fill vacant seats. The President shall be empowered to nominate an eligible member of the Student Body for appointment to any Senate seat which is not to be filled for the remainder of the session by other action provided for in this Rule. The President shall make a reasonable effort to provide that such nominees are members of the constituency they are to be appointed to represent. The President shall send appropriate notice to College Councils as provided by §2-3.9 of these Statutes. Such nominations shall be subject to approval by a simple majority of the Senate as described in clause (a) of this rule."
Section 2.
Student Body Statutes shall be amended by adding a new §2-3.9, as follows:"§2-3.9. Membership Reports.
Reports to the College Councils on membership shall be sent as follows:
- The Student Senate President shall notify a College Council if one of the respective college's seats has become vacant or has been recently filled by appointment within ten class days of the vacancy or appointment.
- The Committee on Government Operations shall notify each College Council of any Senate vacancies within the respective college and the respective college's current Senate delegation, including contact information within the first ten class days of each semester."
Section 3. This act shall become effective upon enrollment.
