AN ACT TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO SCHEULE A DECEMBER HONORS CONVOCATION
Short Title: Scheduling of a December Honors Convocation. (Public)
Sponsored by: Senator PALIN.
First Reading: October 4, 2000. Version Date October 4, 2000.
Referred to: ____________________________________________________________.
WHEREAS, the Honors Convocation provides an annual venue for the gathering of students and faculty to celebrate the achievements and recognized honors bestowed upon students and faculty; and
WHEREAS, the Honors Convocation has historically been held in October; and
WHEREAS, the Honors Convocation recognizing the achievements of the 1999-2000 academic year has been moved to May, 2001; and
WHEREAS, the May, 2001 Honors Convocation will recognize the 2000-2001 academic year, as well as the 1999-2000 academic year, recognizing twice the number of the students; and
WHEREAS, the length caused by a program covering two years of honors and awards would diminish the respect granted to the recipients of those awards; and
WHEREAS, some of the awards being recognized would have occurred over a year before the May 2001 ceremony;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the North Carolina State University Student Senate recommends the scheduling of a one time December Honors convocation, to occur in close proximity to the date of the December graduation, in order to honor those students and faculty who would have been honored at the October 2000 Honors Convocation.
