A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO IMPEACH SENATOR HINES

 

 

Short Title: Hines Impeachment                                                                            (Senate)

WHEREAS,   Becky Hines, a student of NC State University, became a qualified Student Senator on April 26, 2000; and,

 

WHEREAS,   the Student Body Statutes, Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2f, provides that the Student Senate Secretary shall bring allegations against any Senator who accumulates at least three (3) unexcused absences or at least six (6) total absences; and,

 

WHEREAS,   the Student Body Statutes, Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2e, provides that absences from formal meetings of Senate committees shall be treated as one-half (1/2) a Senate absence; and,

 

WHEREAS,   Senator Hines has missed a total of twelve (12) Senate roll calls or committee meetings, of which six (6) were excused, for a total of six (6) absences, including three (3) unexcused absences; and,

 

WHEREAS,   should the Senate find Senator Hines guilty of these allegations at trial, according to the procedures set out in the Student Body Statutes, Chapter 2, Article 2, the Senator shall be immediately removed from office, and prohibited from serving in a Student Government Office for the remainder of the 2000-2001 academic year, and for the 2001-2002 academic year; now; therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the NC State University Student Senate hereby impeaches Senator Becky Hines on the charge of excessive total absences, as defined by Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2, and Chapter 2, Article 2 of the Student Body Statutes; given the specifications:

 

(1) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 4, 2000;

(2) Senator Hines missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 4, 2000;

(3) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 25, 2000;

(4) Senator Hines missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 25, 2000;

(5) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on November 15, 2000;

(6) Senator Hines missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on November 15, 2000;

(7) Senator Hines missed the finance committee meeting on January 9, 2001;

(8) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on January 17, 2001;

(9) Senator Hines missed the finance committee meeting on January 25, 2001;

(10) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on January 31, 2001;

(11) Senator Hines missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on February 18, 2001;

(12) Senator Hines missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on February 18, 2001; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the NC State University Student Senate hereby establishes the date of March 21, at 7:30pm, as the date for the impeachment trial of Senator Hines.

 

 

Believing the above charges to be meritorious, I, the undersigned, hereby file this resolution of impeachment for introduction this 21st day of February, 2001.
