RESOLUTION 61
A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT CALLING UPON NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY TO COMMISSION A STUDY OF THE GRANTING OF COURSE CREDIT FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, North Carolina State University, as a premier institution of higher learning, requires a variety of general education courses; and,
WHEREAS, in general students in high school have the opportunity to enroll in college equivalent courses; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University grants general education credit for college equivalent courses and exams; and,
WHEREAS, the International Baccalaureate Organization’s Diploma Program is a demanding pre-university course of study that leads to examinations; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University generally grants credit only for exceptionally high scores on the higher level International Baccalaureate exams; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University generally grants credit for average scores on the Advanced Placement exams; and,
WHEREAS, some peer institutions to North Carolina State University grant credit for exceptional standard level exam scores, while North Carolina State University grants no credit for standard level exam scores; and,
WHEREAS, some peer institutions to North Carolina State University grant credit for average scores on higher level exams; and,
WHEREAS, to attract the most qualified students, North Carolina State University must review its policies regarding International Baccalaureate credit; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate requests that the Office of the Provost form a commission to study policies regarding International Baccalaureate credit at North Carolina State University comprised of students, faculty, and administrators.
