RESOLUTION 56
A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT APPEALING FOR INCREASED PRIORITY FOR THE BUDGET OF
THE NCSU LIBRARIES
Short Title: Library Funding Act. (Public)

WHEREAS, NC State University is a land grant institution with a Research I Carnegie classification; and,
WHEREAS, the NCSU Libraries play an important role in conducting research; and,
WHEREAS, the NCSU Libraries ranked 35th among the 111 members of the Association of Research Libraries; and,
WHEREAS, a major component of a Research Library is serial subscriptions; and,
WHEREAS, the NCSU Libraries subscribed to 6483 serial publications in January of 2000; and,
WHEREAS, due to budgetary pressures, the library cancelled 310 serial subscriptions for a cost savings of $96,526 in 2000; and,
WHEREAS, further budgetary pressure in the future will result in even more serial subscriptions to be cancelled; and,
WHEREAS, cancellation of serial subscriptions directly affects the research capability of this institution; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
that the NC State University Student Senate entreats the University Administration to elevate the budgetary priority of the NCSU Libraries.
