A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT REQUESTING THAT THE UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION AWARD GENERAL PE CREDIT TO STUDENTS WHO COMPLETE MUS 100A

WHEREAS, The North Carolina State University Marching Band makes significant contributions to the spirited environment of athletic events and is greatly valued by students, athletes, faculty, alumni, and other fans; and,
WHEREAS, Members of the NC State Marching Band spend over five hours each week rehearsing and preparing music that will be played while marching during NC State football games; and,
WHEREAS, Performances at the six home football games each require at least eight hours of time on the part of the NC State Marching Band; and,
WHEREAS, Members of the NC State Marching Band must enroll in, and meet the demanding requirements of, MUS 100A; and,
WHEREAS, Successful completion of MUS 100A requires competency in playing a musical instrument, memorization of sheet music, and skill in field and parade marching; and,
WHEREAS, Full participation in the activities of MUS 100A calls for moderate to high levels of outdoor physical activity in a variety of weather conditions; and,
WHEREAS, Physical Education courses on the 200 level generally require less than two hours of instruction per week and mastery of a select group of physically performed skills; and,
WHEREAS, MUS 100A and 200 level Physical Education courses both require physical tests of the skills obtained in these courses; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate requests that the University Administration grant credit for the 200 level Physical Education requirement of the General Education Requirements to students who successfully complete MUS 100A.
