RESOLUTION 92
AN ACT TO BE ENTITLED CALLING UPON STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES TO ESTABLISH SERVICES AND AWARENESS PROGRAMS FOR MEN’S HEALTH

WHEREAS, the Mission of Student Health Services is "To provide affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to those eligible for services, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health promotion program to the North Carolina State community;" and,
WHEREAS, attention to both women's and men's gender-specific health needs, through health promotion and awareness activities and offering health care services, is critical to fulfilling this mission; and,
WHEREAS, research consistently indicates in every age group that men make 150 million fewer trips to the doctor than women; and,
WHEREAS, men should be aware of health issues such as testicular cancer which is the most common form of cancer in young men between the ages of 15 and 35 years old, and has a curability rate greater than 98% if and only if the cancer is detected and treated early on; and,
WHEREAS, Student Health Services has conducted several successful awareness programs and offers a number of services on women's health; and,
WHEREAS, federal and state laws prohibit the University from offering unequal services to male and female students; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Student Senate of North Carolina State University strongly requests that the University Standing Committee on Student Health prepare a plan of action to make offer services and awareness programs on men’s health to complement the women's health services; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the Director of Student Health Services is asked to present to the Committee on University Affairs the steps being taken by that office to implement the plan of action on men’s health.
