AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR POLITICALLY INCORRECT

BE IT ENACTED by the NC State University Student Senate that:
SECTION 1.
Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher is a nationally syndicated program that airs on the ABC network weekday evenings at 12:05 a.m. The show typically runs for one-half hour and features a brief monologue by Bill Maher followed by round table discussion with four well-known guests from various disciplines. Celebrity guests on the show have ranged from Ben Affleck, to Marilyn Manson, to Ice Cube, to Pamela Anderson Lee. Discussion on the show tends to focus on todays current societal and political issues, but topic items vary depending on the shows theme. One of ABCs most popular television programs, Politically Incorrect has been deemed "the best talk show on television" by TV Guide, won four our Cable Ace Awards for Best Entertainment Host and Best Talk Show, and received nine Emmy nominations.
SECTION 2.
On Saturday, October 14, 2000 at 8 p.m., the popular ABC television late night television program Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher will be taping a live, on-campus version of its show at N.C. States Stewart Theatre. The event will be broadcast on the College Television Network and will include Bill Maher, a nationally recognized comedic talent, a well-known local university personality/politico, and 2 local market celebrities. Maher, considered by many to be one of the most intelligent comedians of his generation, will be giving 20 minutes of his trademark stand-up followed by 40 minutes of roundtable discussion with the shows guests.
Politically Incorrects visit to N.C. State is part of a ten-college campus tour being coordinated through US Concepts, Politically Incorrect, and the ABC network. The CTN broadcast will be delivered to 1681 total locations, over 680 college campuses, and 1.5 million college students throughout the United States. October 14 will mark the first time in N.C. States history that a nationally broadcast program of this magnitude will film an episode on campus, and all N.C. State students are enthusiastically invited to take part in the landmark occasion.
The cost for bringing Politically Incorrect to campus is $17, 500. The Union Activities Board Issues and Ideas Committee, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the College of Engineering are currently sponsoring this event. Tickets will go on sale September 18, 2000 through Ticket Central and will be $5 for N.C. State Students, $10 for non-NCSU college students, $15 for faculty and staff, and $25 for all others.
