A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO REAPPORTION THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE BASED UPON RECENT ENROLLMENT FIGURES FOR THE COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS OF NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY

 

 

Short Title: Reapportionment Act.                                                                               (Public)

WHEREAS,   in order to represent effectively the students of North Carolina State University, the Student Senate from time-to-time must adjust the apportionment of its sixty-four seats; now; therefore be it

 

ENACTED,    by the NC State University Student Senate that:

 

Section 1.        Student Statutes §2-3.3 shall be amended by striking “Forest” and inserting “Natural,” so that the section reads:

 

“§2-3.3. Recognized Schools and Colleges.

 For the purposes of this Article, the recognized Schools and Colleges of the University shall be:

(a)     the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS);

(b)     the School of Design;

(c)     the College of Education and Psychology;

(d)     the College of Engineering;

(e)     the College of Natural Resources;

(f)      the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS);

(g)     the College of Management;

(h)     the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (PAMS);

(i) the College of Textiles;

(j) the Graduate School;

(k)     the College of Veterinary Medicine;

(l) the First-Year College; and

(m)    Life-Long Education students.”

 

Section 2.        Student Statutes §2-3.4 shall be struck and the following inserted:

“§2-3.4. Current apportionment.

Each School and College, and class within the School or College, shall be represented by the following number of Senators:

(a)     freshmen from all Schools and Colleges--eleven (11);

(b)     CALS sophomores--two (2);

(c)     CALS juniors--three (3);

(d)     CALS seniors--three (3);

(e)     Design--one (1);

(f)      Education and Psychology--three (3);

(g)     Engineering sophomores--four (4);

(h)     Engineering juniors--three (3);

(i) Engineering seniors--four (4);

(j) Natural Resources--two (2);

(k)     CHASS sophomores--two (2);

(l) CHASS juniors--two (2);

(m)    CHASS seniors--two (2);

(n)     Management sophomores--two (2);

(o)     Management juniors--two (2);

(p)     Management seniors--two (2);

(q)     PAMS--three (3);

(r)      Textiles--two (2);

(s)     Graduate--five (5);

(t)      Veterinary Medicine--one (1);

(u)     First-Year College --two (2); and

(v)     Life-long Education--three (3).”

 

Section 3.        Student Statutes §2-3.6 shall be struck and the following inserted:

“§2-3.6. Appointment by the Fall Appointments Commission.

                         The Senate shall form a Fall Appointments Commission from its membership, which shall select freshmen and first-year graduate students for positions in the Senate. Senators to be appointed by the committee include:

(a)     all Senators representing the freshman class; and

(b)     one (1) Senator representing the Graduate School.”             

 

Section 4.        This act shall become effective upon enrollment. The apportionment of the 2000-2001 Senate Session shall not be modified. The 2001 elections board shall be instructed to conduct elections using the apportionment enacted above.
