RESOLUTION 94

AN ACT TO BE ENTITLED COMMENDATION OF NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY WRESTLING TEAM

 

Short Title: Wrestling Commendation. (Public)

Sponsored by: Senator JONES and Senator WICKS.

WHEREAS, North Carolina State University has a rich tradition of excellence in the classroom and in the athletic arena; and,

WHEREAS, N.C. State Wrestling has been part of this proud tradition; and

 

WHEREAS, N.C. State Wrestling just completed an outstanding 2000-2001 season, earning the title of ACC Conference Champion and breaking a four-year Carolina winning streak in the ACC Championship; and,

WHEREAS, three of N.C. State’s wrestlers, George Cintron, Pierre Pryor, and Zach Breitenbach, earned conference championships in their respective weight classes, and Oraefo Brown, Tommy Davis and Dustin Kawa earned second place in the ACC, and Ryan McCallum and Ricky Fowler won third place in the Conference in their weight classes; and,

WHEREAS, five of N.C. State’s wrestlers competed at the National Tournament in Iowa City, IA; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate extend its congratulations to Coaches Guzzo, Jordan, and Hicks, and each member of the wrestling team for their hard work, effort and dedication during this season; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate encourages the Department of Athletics to continue increasing its support for N.C. State Wrestling, so that the team may become a powerful force not only at the Conference level but at the National level as well.
