SENATE RESOLUTION 80

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

An act to censure Senator Brannon on charges of excessive absences

Short Title: Brannon Censure. (Senate)

Sponsored by: Senators Brown, Denton, Fabricius, Mangum, Tatum, White, and Wright.

WHEREAS, a student of North Carolina State University, became a Student Senator, representing the Freshman class on September 12, 2001; and,

WHEREAS, the Student Body Statutes, Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2f, provides that the Student Senate Standing Committee on Government Operations shall review the absences of a Student Senator should the Senator accumulate four (4) absences; and,

WHEREAS, the Student Body Statutes, Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2e, provides that absences from formal meetings of Senate committees shall be treated as one-half (1/2) a Senate absence; and,

WHEREAS, as of February 10, 2002, Senator Brannon has missed a total of twelve (12) Senate roll calls or committee meetings for a total of six (6) absences; and,

WHEREAS, in a hearing conducted pursuant to statute on February 20, 2002, the Senate Standing Committee on Government Operations found the absences of Senator Brannon excessive and recommended censure; now; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the NC State University Student Senate hereby censures Senator Timothy Brannon on the charge of excessive total absences, as defined by Chapter 2, Article 1, Rule 2, and Chapter 2, Article 2 of the Student Body Statutes; given the specifications:

      1. Senator Brannon missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on September 26, 2001;
      2. Senator Brannon missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on September 26, 2001;
      3. Senator Brannon missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 10, 2001;
      4. Senator Brannon missed the campus life committee meeting on October 18, 2001;
      5. Senator Brannon missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on October 24, 2001;
      6. Senator Brannon missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on January 16, 2002;
      7. Senator Brannon missed the campus life committee meeting on January 23, 2002;
      8. Senator Brannon missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on January 30, 2002;
      9. Senator Brannon missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on January 30, 2002;
      10. Senator Brannon missed the campus life committee meeting on February 5, 2002;
      11. Senator Brannon missed the opening roll call for the Student Senate meeting on February 6, 2002;
      12. Senator Brannon missed the closing roll call for the Student Senate meeting on February 6, 2002.
