A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act to demand just and proper proportional representation in the University of North Carolina Association of Student Governments for the North Carolina State University Student Body and its Student Body Government

WHEREAS, the University of North Carolina Association of Student Government was organized to represent the Student Governments of the 16 constituent campuses; and,
WHEREAS, the UNC Association of Student Governments was recently granted a fee of $1 per student of the University of North Carolina; and,
WHEREAS, the UNC Association of Student Governments failed to seek the approval of its constituent Student Governments before requesting institution of a fee; and,
WHEREAS, the UNC Association of Student Governments has always been a voluntary due supported organization; and,
WHEREAS, the constituents of North Carolina State University Student Government now must pay compulsory membership dues totaling in excess of $23,000; and,
WHEREAS, no other University Student Body pays as much into the UNCASG coffers as North Carolina State University; and,
WHEREAS, NCSU Student Government receives the same four general assembly delegates as every other UNC Student Government; and,
WHEREAS, the cost of a general assembly seat for NCSU is nearly $6000, while other universities pay less than $500 a seat; and,
WHEREAS, NCSU Student Government’s greater contribution to UNCASG entitles it to greater representation in its primary assembly; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of Student Body Presidents, which equally represents Student Governments of small and large Student Bodies, has grown increasingly influential in the UNCASG; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University Student Government has the authority to revisit its continued participation in Associations that inadequately represent it and its constituents; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate strongly demands that the UNC Association of Student Governments adopt an apportionment scheme for its General Assembly granting North Carolina State University Student Government representation in proportion to the financial contribution of the NC State University Student Body; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate instructs the NCSU Student Body President to effect a withdrawal from the UNC Association of Student Governments should the Association fail to grant NCSU representation as demanded by this act by December 31, 2002.
