RESOLUTION 36
A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act Concerning the Proposed increase
in the transportation fee
WHEREAS, Article
IX, Section 9 of the N.C. Constitution states, “The General Assembly shall provide that
the benefits of The University of North Carolina and other public institutions
of higher education, as far as practicable, be extended to the people of the
State free of expense;" and,
WHEREAS, the
UNC Board of Governors has extended "free as far as practicable"
to all charges exacted by the state's
16 public universities, including student fees; and,
WHEREAS, the
NC State Department of Transportation is requesting a $2.00 fee increase for
the 2003-2004 academic year; and,
WHEREAS, the
fee increase would cover the cost of a bus provided for the K-Mart Park and
Ride lot, a bus currently operating without recurring funds; and,
WHEREAS, the
K-Mart Park and Ride lot has been a very popular lot in the past, with the
number of students on the two buses, in that route, totally between 12,700 and
14,300 students; and,
WHEREAS, the
continuation of a new bus on the route will prevent wait times from returning
to 30 minutes from 15 minutes; and,
WHEREAS, students
would greatly benefit from the $2.00 increase because of the decreased wait
time that allows the students to get to class on time; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that
the North Carolina State University Student Senate supports a Transportation
Fee Increase of $2.00 for the 2003-2004 academic year.
I hereby certify that this resolution was read twice and adopted in the North Carolina State University Student Senate, this 2nd day of October 2002.
