RESOLUTION 54

 

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

An act TO SUPPORT a thirty dollar INCREASE Of the ncsu education and technology Student Fee

 

Short Title: Education and Technology Student Fee Request                                                    (Public)

WHEREAS,   Article IX, Section 9 of the N.C. Constitution states, “The General Assembly shall provide that the benefits of The University of North Carolina and other public institutions of higher education, as far as practicable, be extended to the people of the State free of expense;” and,

 

WHEREAS,   the UNC Board of Governors has extended “free as far as practicable” to all charges exacted by the state’s 16 public universities, including student fees; and,

 

WHEREAS,   the NCSU Education and Technology Unit needs a thirty dollar student fee increase to maintain the current level of services to students; and,             

 

WHEREAS,   the unit provides service to the student community as well as jobs to students through the various college units; and,                                            

 

WHEREAS,   Disability Student Services receives funds out of the Educational Technology Fee for technology expenditures; and,

 

WHEREAS,   alternative funds may be more readily available for Disability Student Services than for other ETF supported units; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  that the North Carolina State University Student Senate supports the adoption of a thirty dollar increase for the NCSU Education and Technology Fee; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate recommend that the fee increase not be used to support full-time personnel; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate recommend that the amount of funding used to support full-time personnel be decreased; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED,  that the Student Senate urges the NCSU Education and Technology Unit to seek additional funding sources in the future; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the NCSU Student Senate calls upon the ETF advisory team, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost to report to the NCSU Student Senate of the feasibility of alternative funding sources for Disability Student Services technical expenditures by March 15, 2004.
