An act Fractionalizing the student-count of majors that require north carolina teaching certification for the Purpose of apportionment

WHEREAS, many education majors such as Agricultural
Education, History/Political Science Education, English Education, and Foreign
Language Education are not considered under the domain of the College of
Education at North Carolina State University, but instead, other colleges and;
WHEREAS, these same majors require a teaching licensure
issued by the state of North Carolina, which is pre-approved by the College of
Education, and;
WHEREAS, students pursuing majors such as these must pass the Praxis
Examination, aided by the College of Education, and;
WHEREAS, a large portion of these curricula contain
courses in education provided by the College of Education, and;
WHEREAS, several students with these majors have
scholarships (i.e. NC Teaching Fellows, Eileen and J. Bryant Kirkland
Agricultural Endowment Scholarship, and Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship) that
are dispersed and enhanced by the College of Education, and;
WHEREAS, students pursuing educational degrees are
required to student-teach for one semester through the College of Education,
and;
WHEREAS, these co-disciplinary students deserve representation both
through their official colleges and the College of Education, therefore be it
ENACTED, by
the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section
1. Student Body
Statutes §2-3 shall be amended by inserting:
§2-3.7. College of Education Fractional
Apportionment.
Exclusively for the
purpose of apportionment, students with a primary major in Agricultural Education,
English Education, History/Political Science Education, and Foreign Language
Education shall count for fifty percent (50%) of a student in their primary
college and for fifty percent (50%) of a student in the College of Education.
This calculation shall be completed using FTE enrollment, not headcount
enrollment.
Section
2. This act shall be effective upon its
enrollment.
