A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act to Affirm and Declare the Complete and Total Separation of The North Carolina State University Student Body Government and the Political Campaign of Zack T. Medford

WHEREAS, Mr. Zack T. Medford, a student of North Carolina State University, is a candidate for election to the Raleigh City Council; and,
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2003, the Medford campaign’s proximity to Student Government, combined with joint statements made by individuals of apparent authority in Student Government, has generated the perception that there is some form of Student Government support, affiliation, or partnership with the campaign; and,
WHEREAS, at no point has Student Government offered any organized support to the Medford campaign; and,
WHEREAS, while individuals affiliated with Student Government have the right to participate in political activities, participation while engaged in official SG duties is a conflict of interest and improper exercise of official power; and,
WHEREAS, Student Government is tasked by the Student Body Constitution to represent every student of the University, regardless of his or her political affiliation; now, therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate hereby declares that it is the policy of the Student Body Government to remain independent from all local, state, and federal elective campaigns; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate affirms that neither the Campaign of Mr. Zack T. Medford nor any other city council candidate is affiliated with or supported by this Student Body Government in any form.
