A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act TO ENCOURAGE WAKE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTION TO MOVE ELECTION POLL SITE FROM WITHERSPOON STUDENT CENTER TO TALLY STUDENT CENTER

WHEREAS, An on-campus voting place enables students living on
campus without means of transportation to vote; and,
WHEREAS, the Wake County Board of Elections mandates that some parking spaces be reserved for off campus voters; and,
WHEREAS, construction of the steam plant across from Witherspoon Student Center will be taking away numerous parking spaces that are utilized by faculty and staff, and also reserved for voters during election periods. According to the Department of Transportation, these spaces will NOT be made available for 2004 elections; and,
WHEREAS, availability of parking spaces are much better near Tally Student Center, including the coliseum deck and parking meters in front of the NCSU Students Supply Store; and,
WHEREAS, the Tally Student Center is more often populated than the Witherspoon Student Center, and also closer to classrooms and the food court, students will be more likely to vote at the Talley Student Center; and,
WHEREAS, since the Tally Student Center Ballroom is similar to the Witherspoon Student Center Multipurpose Room, and the Tally Student Center Ballroom may be reserved for similar purposes at no cost; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate encourages the Wake County Board of Elections to relocate the election polling station from Witherspoon Student Center Multipurpose Room to the Tally Student Center Ballroom for the 2004 elections.
