RESOLUTION 06
A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act To urge the North Carolina General Assembly to maintain the current level of funding for the Graduate Non-Resident tuition remission program
WHEREAS, the current version of the House budget proposes a 10 percent reduction in University funding for non-resident graduate student tuition remissions; and,
WHEREAS, the tuition remission program is critical in recruiting top level graduate students from across the United States and the world; and,
WHEREAS, financial commitments to graduate students have already been made based on the existing budget for the tuition remission program; and,
WHEREAS, cuts to the tuition remission program would significantly impact the inflow of intellectual capital into North Carolina, making the state less attractive to new and existing high technology, high growth companies; and,
WHEREAS, cuts to the tuition remission program would substantially hinder North Carolina State UniversityÕs mission as a Research I institution; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate strongly urges the North Carolina General Assembly to agree to no budget which contains any cuts to the non-resident tuition remission program.
I hereby certify that this resolution was read and adopted in the North Carolina State University Student Senate, this 2nd day of May 2003.
