A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act concerning student government and student fee review

WHEREAS, the modern Student Senate was chartered by the Student Body in 1969 to “enact all legislation necessary and proper to promote the general welfare of the Student Body”; and,
WHEREAS, the Student Body Government was founded on principles of “free discussion and inquiry” to serve as an independent voice solely for the Student Body; and,
WHEREAS, the Student Senate enacted the Tuition and Fees Committee in spring 2000 as a group of elected students accountable for upholding the best needs and interests of the entire Student Body on matters of student fees; and,
WHEREAS. investigation by the Tuition and Fees Committee has been instrumental in both the defeat of unwarranted increases and adoption of necessary increases; and,
WHEREAS, the importance of organized Student Government input has been recognized by the UNC Board of Governors, in fact mandating in the Student Fee Policy that University Chancellors request student perspectives directly from Student Governments immediately prior to making recommendations to their Boards of Trustees; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate affirms the importance of active role of democratically elected student legislatures in due diligence on fee review.
