A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
An act to limit credit card solicitation to one location and provide for credit card education
Short Title: Credit Card Solicitation Reform Act (Public)

WHEREAS, Many students enter college without credit
cards or proper education on credit card use; and,
WHEREAS, The average student graduates
college with approximately $2,200 (according to Nellie Mae) in credit card
debt; and,
WHEREAS, Credit card debt can severely
hamper a student’s ability to obtain future credit and loans; and,
WHEREAS, Proper education and usage of
credit cards can help a student establish a sound credit history; and,
WHEREAS, Many student organizations,
banks, and vendors solicit students to sign up for credit cards during the
academic year; and,
WHEREAS, The solicitation process
often includes an exchange of a gift as an enticement for a credit card
application; and,
WHEREAS, The credit card solicitation
process occurs in multiple locations throughout the University; and,
WHEREAS, The solicitation tables
provide hindrance to pedestrian travel throughout the campus; and,
WHEREAS, The Student Legal Services
of North Carolina State University provides information on credit card
counseling; and,
WHEREAS, Education and information about
credit card use will help reduce the amount of debt that students have at the end
of college;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that
the North Carolina State University Student Senate calls for only one location
to be permitted for credit card solicitation on Main Campus; and, further be it
RESOLVED,
that the North Carolina State University Student Senate calls for all
groups distributing credit card applications to give all persons applying for a
credit card credit education information provided by Student Legal Services;
and, further be it
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University
Student Senate calls for the publication cost of the credit card education
information paid by the groups distributing credit card applications.
