A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

An act TO rEVISE THE STANDING COMMITTEE DUTIES OF THE

COMMITTEE ON dIVERSITY

 

Short Title: DIVERSITY COMMITTEE DUTIES ACT                                               (Public)

WHEREAS,   the African American Culture Center’s primary focus is to “promote awareness of and appreciation for the African American experience,” the Office of Diversity and African American Affairs’ primary focus is to “promote academic excellence, retention, and success of African American students and faculty and members of other underrepresented groups” and being that this later mission is more inclusive of any ethnic background while still retaining the previous center’s ties to African Americans and;

 

WHEREAS,   students with disabilities also form part of diversity on campus, and the diversity committee already deals with policies and student concerns involving disability by interacting with members within the Office of Equal Opportunity which also oversees the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Committee and other disability services and;

 

WHEREAS,   many attempts to uncover the guidelines explaining the Erase-ism program proved unsuccessful, and the fact that the Diversity Committee retains the power to hold a diversity program even if said program is not defined in the Diversity Committee charter, now, therefore be it

 

ENACTED,    by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:

 

Section 1.        Senate Rule 10(c) Committee on Diversity shall be amended by striking:

 

(c) Committee on Diversity. The Committee on Diversity shall be responsible for policies concerning free expression of ideas and beliefs cultural differences between students of the University, discrimination on campus, the African-American Cultural Center, the Women’s Center, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the implementation of the Outstanding Person Award and Erase-ism.

 

                        And inserting

 

(c) Committee on Diversity. The Committee on Diversity shall be responsible for policies concerning the free expression of ideas and beliefs, cultural differences between students of the University, discrimination on campus, the Office of Diversity and African American Affairs, the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Women’s Center, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the implementation of the Outstanding Person Award.    

 

Section 3.        This act shall be effective upon its enrollment.
