GOVERNMENT BILL 02

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

An act to Set an Earlier Timetable for Consideration of the Student Government Annual Budget and to Mandate Extended Committee Review

Short Title: Timely Budget Consideration Act (Public)

BE IT ENACTED, by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:

Section 1. Student Body Statutes §5-1.3 shall be amended by striking:

§5-1.3. Budget Consideration.

The Student Body Treasurer shall file for introduction, in consultation with the Committee on the Budget, a budget recommendation for the next fiscal year no later than the first Senate meeting in ~~March~~. The bill shall be referred on first reading to the Committee on the Budget. The Committee on the Budget shall conduct whatever public hearings it deems necessary for a thorough investigation of all budgetary options.

§5-1.3. Budget Consideration.

The Student Body Treasurer shall file for introduction, in consultation with the Committee on the Budget, a budget recommendation for the next fiscal year no later than the second Sunday in February. The bill shall be referred on first reading to the Committee on the Budget. The Committee on the Budget shall conduct whatever public hearings it deems necessary for a thorough investigation of all budgetary options. Insomuch as possible, the Committee on the Budget shall conduct multiple hearings on the budget, and provide opportunities for all units of the Student Government to suggest and respond to changes in their respective funding levels.

Section 2. This act shall be effective upon its enrollment.
