A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

An act TO CHARGE THE UNIVERSITY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ADVISING ON A COLLEGE BY COLLEGE BASIS

WHEREAS,   each student at N.C. State has an advisor from their respective college; and,

 

WHEREAS,   students are not readily familiar with the classes they must take, how to make changes to their major, or what is the best path for them to take for specific careers; and,

 

WHEREAS,  an advisor is there to provide assistance to each student that has been assigned to them; and,

 

WHEREAS,  each college distributes their advisors differently and holds them to varying standards; and,

 

WHEREAS,  many students have a problem with their advising, whether it be based on the numbers of students an advisor must have or the quality of the advisor themselves; and,

 

WHEREAS,  an assessment of how students in each of the different colleges feel about how they are advised and the advising system in their college would provide distinct view on what works best for students; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  that the North Carolina State University Student Senate charges the Provost to perform a college by college assessment of the students feelings on advising and to create a task force to analyze and make suggestions on how the system can be improved.
