A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
An act to Provide Miscellaneous Amendments to the Student Body Statutes to maintain consistency with EACH of the several Simplification Acts
Short Title:
Simplification Consistency Act

WHEREAS, the Select Committee on
Government Simplification has been charged to review Student Government for
opportunities to simplify structures, statues, and procedures, and
WHEREAS, legislation from this committee
has not directly addressed clauses in Chapters 5, 7, and 9, which may need
amendment to be consistent with other proposed chapters; now, therefore be it
ENACTED, by
the
Section 1. Student Body Statues Chapter 5, Article 3 shall be amended by inserting:
§5-3.6. General Organization.
The personnel in the department shall have the
general organization and attributes as specified under SBS §3-1.12. Departments and Divisions.
Section 2. Student Body Statutes §5-3.9 and §5-3.10 shall be struck.
Section 3. Student Body Statues Chapter 5, Article 3 shall be amended by inserting:
§5-3.10. Treasury and Executive
Office Distinction.
Both the Department of the Treasury and the Executive Office of the Treasurer have officials appointed by the Treasurer. Officials with duties related to financial matters or other Department duties shall be Assistant Treasurers in the Department. Officials with duties related to the Treasurer as a general executive officer shall be considered staff members in the Executive Office
Section 4. Student Body Statutes §7-2.2 shall be
amended to read:
§7-2.2. Elections Commission.
The
Elections Commission shall have the basic duty to ensure a free and fair
Student Body Election. The Commission shall be comprised of chair (SBS §7-2.9)
and eight (8) commissioners, who shall be students appointed by the Student
Body President, subject to the simple majority confirmation of the Senate.
These eight (8) commissioners shall be divided into two classes as follows:
(a)
Four (4) commission
appointments shall be Class 2 Presidential Appointments, for a term ending the spring
commencement one year hence; and
(b)
Four (4) commission
appointments shall be Class 3 Presidential Appointments, for a term ending the
fall commencement one year hence.
Section 5. Student Body
Statutes §7-4.25(c) shall be amended by adding: “When running
for multiple offices, candidates may form joint campaigns with
themselves.”
Section 6. This act
shall be effective upon the adjournment sine die of the
85th Session of the Student Senate.
