RESOLUTION 78

 

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

An act To urge students to redouble their efforts to excersise caution in their relations with matters concerning student conduct.

 

Short Title: Student Conduct Caution Act                                                                               (Public)

Sponsored by: Senators Adams, Heath, and Walton.

Secondary Sponsors: Senator Compton, Hutcherson, and Griggs.

WHEREAS, entities of the Office of Student Conduct have made it apparent that they feel obligated to use any and all evidence they are presented that the office deems relevant to any active or potential case; and,

 

WHEREAS, the office of Student Conduct has the ability to gain access to any communication conducted within the NCSU computer infrastructure, including ResNet; and,

 

WHEREAS, the University holds students accountable for any statements made on public forums; and,

 

WHEREAS, students have the right to access any information brought to the attention of Student Conduct or University Housing; and,

 

WHEREAS,   not all students are aware that the University can hold them accountable for any posted pictures or statements made in the public domain of the internet; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  that, while not encouraging improper behavior, the North Carolina State Student Senate encourages students to consider removing any picture, video, or dialogue that could be construed as incriminating from any public domain such as thefacebook.com or the Wolf Web; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED,  that the Student Senate recommends that students exercise caution when communicating through any means within the NCSU computer infrastructure; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED,  that the Student Senate encourages that students seek access to all evidence against them prior to a student conduct appearance for any charge.
