A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

AN act to provide for the adjournment sine die of the

eighty-sixth session of the north carolina state university

student senate

WHEREAS,   On April 04, 2007, the 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate convened with Student Senate President Zach Adams presiding and Student Body President S. Wilson Quick, Student Chief Justice Lock Whiteside, and Student Body Treasurer Adam Compton in attendance; and,

 

WHEREAS,   During the 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate, there were more freshman applicants for the fall elections than any previous fall election; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate advocated for extending tailgating hours, which was voted for by the Football Taskforce from four to five hours; and,

 

WHEREAS, The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate held the first ever meeting by petition of the senators to discuss concerns relating to the 2007 Spring election; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate supported the Timely Textbook Adoption Act to ensure the timely submission of textbook orders by professors; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate advocated to the administration and state legislature for tax-free textbooks; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate adopted the First Year Course Repeat Expansion Act to extend course repeat policies to first year students in 300- and 400-level courses; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate supported the Drop Date Modification Act to extend the period of time students have to drop a course; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate adopted the GBLTA Center Endorsement Act to support the creation of a GBLTA support center on campus, and helped to organize a public forum to discuss the issue; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate supported the Senior Game Tickets Act ensuring the allotment of tickets to athletic events to seniors; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate adopted the Service Learning Endorsement Act to support the creation of a center on campus dedicated to the leadership development of students; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate supported the GER Revisions Endorsement Act to encourage the relaxation of general education requirements and provide greater academic freedom to students; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate honored the University cashiers office with the first annual Jenny Chang Outstanding Student Service Award; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate supported the creation of the office of Public Defender to ensure that all students receive fair treatment in all judicial hearings; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate monetarily supported the MLK Service Challenge in providing 500 meals to Operation Storehouse for Stop Hunger Now; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate expedited the Spring 2007 Appropriations process, distributing funds to student body organizations several weeks early; and,

 

WHEREAS,   The 86th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate conducted review of proposed student fee increases and supported a revised timeline to allot more time to the review of student fees; and,

 

WHEREAS,   Senator Emeritus Tracy S.  Hutcherson served as a proxy more than any known individual in the history of the North Carolina State University Student Senate; and,

 

WHEREAS    The 84th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate has confirmed numerous appointees who have served the Student Body with honor and pride; and now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that

 

Section 1.         Any portions of the journal yet unapproved shall stand approved, effective noon, May 1, 2007. The Secretary shall provide an opportunity for online review and correction by all Senators, as provided for by Senate Rule.

 

Section 2.         Pursuant to Senate Rule 4, the 85th Session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate shall stand adjourned sine die, effective at five o’clock PM on Tuesday, the tenth of April, two thousand and seven.

 

Section 3.        In the event of vetoes or crises, the Senate President shall be empowered to suspend sine die adjournment for a period up to one week for purposes of reconvening the Senate.

 

Section 4.        In all cases where this act and the Standing Rules of the Senate may conflict, this act shall govern.

 

Section 5.        This act is effective upon its adoption.
