An act TO ENSURE the ethical leadership of the student senate

WHEREAS, service in Student Government is a public
trust granted by the Student Body it represents; and,
WHEREAS, individuals who have disgraced themselves and
their office should not be permitted to lead the Senate in any capacity; now,
therefore be it
ENACTED, by
the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section
1. Statutory Authority.
This bill is adopted pursuant to the provisions of Article II, Sections
5(d) and 5(e) of the Student Body Constitution, and Chapter 2, Rule 17(b)(3) of
the Student Body Statutes.
Section
2. A new Student Body Statutes Chapter 2,
Article I ("Standing Rules of the
Senate") Rule 24 shall be inserted as follows, and all subsequent
rules renumbered according:
Rule 24.
Ethics in Leadership Requirement
No member of the Senate who has
previously been impeached for dereliction of duty or other such offenses shall
be permitted to hold any position beyond that of Senator, including, but not
limited to, any Senate Officer position as specified in Rule 22, any committee
chairmanship, or any other officer position in any committee. Additionally, no such members shall be
permitted to serve on any permanent committee.
Section
3. A new Student Body Statutes Chapter 2,
Article II, Section 2-2.26 ("Applicability
of Ethics in Leadership Requirement") shall be inserted as follows,
and all subsequent rules renumbered accordingly:

2-2.26. Applicability of Ethics in
Leadership Requirement
All
officials affected by this section shall consequently be subject to the Senate
Ethics in Leadership Requirement as specified in Senate Standing Rule 24.
Section
4. This act shall be effective upon the
adjournment sine die of the 86th
session of the Student Senate.
