WHEREAS, the Oberlin Community Movement, comprised of
the Latta House Foundation and the Oberlin Community, aims to promote the
history of the Latta House, raise awareness of the existence of the Oberlin
Village, and to recover access to the cemetery of Oberlin Village; and,
WHEREAS, the Latta House was the first public school in
Raleigh built by a freed slave, Reverend Morgan London Latta, in the late
1800s; and,
WHEREAS, as students of a public university in
