A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to support Oberlin Community Movement and the Latta House Foundation.

 

Short Title: Oberlin Community Movement and Latta House Act                                            (Public)

WHEREAS,   the Oberlin Community Movement, comprised of the Latta House Foundation and the Oberlin Community, aims to promote the history of the Latta House, raise awareness of the existence of the Oberlin Village, and to recover access to the cemetery of Oberlin Village; and,

 

WHEREAS,   the Latta House was the first public school in Raleigh built by a freed slave, Reverend Morgan London Latta, in the late 1800s; and,

 

WHEREAS,   as students of a public university in Raleigh we value the history of public education; and,

 

WHEREAS,   as members of this community we are concerned with public access to the Oberlin Village cemetery; now therefore be it;

 

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate supports the Oberlin Community Movement and the Latta House Foundation; therefore be it further,

 

RESOLVED,  that the North Carolina State University Student Senate recognizes the Oberlin Village.
