RESOLUTION 77

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO FORMALLY SUPPORT THE PLACEMENT OF
THE OLD CITY BELL IN THE MEMORIAL TOWER IN THE UPCOMING RENOVATION

WHEREAS, with the renovation of the Memorial Tower comes a very rare opportunity to give a historic bell a final resting place in its belfry; and,

WHEREAS, the bell in its current state at the top of Withers Hall is not being used, nor is getting proper respect paid due; and,

WHEREAS, the existing bell-ringing equipment, mount, and clapper would be relocated to the belfry as well; and,

WHEREAS, moving the bell would preserve the bell in a dignified way rather than being passed into solitude in a museum, searching for patrons, it would serve audibly as a constant reminder to those in service in the Raleigh Fire Department and Armed Forces - past and present; and,

WHEREAS, it would give a beating heart to a empty stoic edifice of those lost in World War One as well as it will renew and invigorate thought of their sacrifice; and,

WHEREAS, the Tower's new sound will be heard even farther than it is now, further activating it as a beacon of excellence and pride to university, city, state, and country; and,

WHEREAS, it will reinforce the bond between the University and the City of Raleigh; and,

WHEREAS, the bell would be rung in conjunction with the current live electric carillon bell system. The current system would remain completely intact; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that the Student Government and the Student Body express support of the plan to place the historic bell into the belfry of the Memorial Tower during the upcoming renovation; and be it further,

RESOLVED, NC State Student Government encourages all elected officials to endorse and support this plan to place the historic bell into the belfry of the Memorial Tower during the upcoming renovation; and be it further,

RESOLVED, NC State Student Government encourages all university officials to endorse and support this plan to place the historic bell into the belfry of the Memorial Tower during the upcoming renovation; and be it
further,

RESOLVED, NC State Student Government calls upon the Staff and Faculty Senates to endorse and support this plan to place the historic bell into the belfry of the Memorial Tower during the upcoming renovation.
