An act TO Commend the Campus Community Committee for their work on campout 2008

WHEREAS,
according to the
Technician, approximately 3,200 students signed up for the
February
8th, 2008 campout for the UNC-Chapel Hill vs. NC State Game, which
was held on Lee Field ; and,
WHEREAS, for the UNC v. NC
State game, there are 2,850 seats reserved, all of those were
allocated to campout participants, per the decision of the Senate Campus Community Committee; and,
WHEREAS, due
to differences in opinion, Vice Chancellor Tom Stafford sought to reduce the
allotment of tickets available to those who did campout to 1500 students, with
the other half being reserved for the online ticketing system; and,
WHEREAS, given
the proximity of the event – approximately 10 hours – this action, if followed
through would have had severe consequences for the 3,200 students planning to
campout; and,
WHEREAS,
after
notification that there was a distinct possibility of halving the campout
allotment,
the persons responsible for planning campout began negotiations with Dr.
Stafford and eventually secured the original allotment; and,
WHEREAS, campout,
despite the above problems, was a success, with 2800 students all getting
tickets for the UNC v. NCSU basketball game; now, therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the Student Senate recognizes the work of the Campus Community Committee and many others working to make the 2008 campout one of the largest ever; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that the hours put into events of this nature often goes unnoticed, but it is the commitment from dedicated people that makes all organizations, especially such as Student Government, successful; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that we all reflect and learn from both the positive and the negative events to
make future campouts a success.
