A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT TO EXPRESS STUDENT GOVERNMENTÕS APPRECIATION
FOR THE CONTINUED SERVICE OF ERICH FABRICIUS

WHEREAS, voting remains an integral part of any democratic society; and,
WHEREAS, trust in
the system in which votes are cast has a direct relationship to the trust in
the officials and the institution to which such officials were elected; and,
WHEREAS, during the 2007 Spring General Elections a parsing error was discovered in the tabulation software for write-in votes, causing a delay in the processing and subsequent release of voting results; and,
WHEREAS, Erich
Fabricius, author of many of the web technologies that Student Government uses
today to carry out many of its duties, including the voting software, promptly
and successfully corrected the error in the tabulation software, allowing the
final results to be tabulated and released; and,
WHEREAS, Fabricius
also offered to harden the underlying voting software and was allowed to do so
in time for the 2007 Fall General Election; and,
WHEREAS, in
addition to enhanced security, the revised voting software included a number of
functionality improvements that substantially expedited the tabulation process,
including real-time automatic LDAP queries, predictive write-in mapping, and a
refined interface; and,
WHEREAS, Fabricius
has neither asked for nor accepted any payment for the above-mentioned services
and improvements; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the N.C.
State University Student Senate, on behalf of the Student Government and the
Student Body extends its appreciation to Erich Fabricius for his pro bono
services.
