A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

An act honoring Susan nutter of the NCSU Libraries with the

2008 jenny chang outstanding student service award

Section 1.        Statutory Authority.  This resolution is adopted pursuant to the provisions of Article II, Sections 5(d) of the Student Body Constitution, and Chapter 2, Rule 17(c) of the Student Body Statutes.

 

WHEREAS,  the Jenny Chang Outstanding Student Service Award is given to any university

administrative unit acting to the benefit of the student body, above and beyond the expectations of Student Body and the Student Government; and,

 

WHEREAS,  Susan Nutter, director of the NCSU Libraries, has consistently listened to

student’s needs; and,

 

WHEREAS,  named Librarian of Year in 2005, Nutter was noted for her commitment to

improving the status of the libraries, not only on campus but across the nation and world; and,

 

WHEREAS,  when Nutter become director of NCSU Libraries, it ranked 101st compared to its

peers in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Due to Nutter’s leadership and the wonderful staff at NCSU Libraries, the Libraries has climbed to 32nd place in North America within 10 years, which is unprecedented; and,    

 

WHEREAS,  in the mid-1990s Nutter convinced the NCSU faculty decided to forgo personal

salary increases during trying financial times, insisting that the money go to support the development of the NCSU library; and,     

 

WHEREAS,  during discussion on the nominee, she was noted for: her honesty in addressing

issues; her passion for knowing and then implementing students’ and staff’s ideas; and her vision not only for the long term but her insistence on results in the short term; now therefore be it,

 

WHEREAS,   for her tireless dedication to voices of the Student Body and their efforts to ensure each individual student has a meaningful library experience Susan Nutter is uniquely deserving of the 2008 Jenny Chang Outstanding Student Service Award; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  that the North Carolina State University Student Senate thanks Susan Nutter and the staff of the NCSU Libraries for their outstanding service to the Student Body, and hereby awards them the 2008 Jenny Chang Outstanding Student Service Award; and, be it further,
