Makes Sponsoring Senators more accountable for their role in the Appropriations process by charging senators with a half absence for all interviews missed without prior notification to both the organization and chair of the Appropriations Committee.

A BILL TO BE ENTILED AN ACT TO HOLD SPONSORING SENATORS ACCOUNTABLE FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATION SUPPORT FOR AND ATTENDANCE AT APPROPRIATIONS INTERVIEWS

 

 


Short Title: Sponsoring Senator Accountability Act

WHEREAS, Student Organizations applying for funds through the appropriations process are required to have a sponsoring Senator for their request; and,

 

WHEREAS,  the primary role of Student Senators is to serve as advocates for the student body and the Appropriations process is the one of the main sources of contact and interaction with Student Organizations; and,

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Sponsoring Senator is to familiarize groups with the Appropriations and interview process and review filed requests for accuracy; and,

 

WHEREAS,  when Senators fail to adequately contact and represent their groups, the Committee on Appropriations cannot run as efficiently and effectively as possible in distributing funds and Student GovernmentÕs relations with Student Organizations is negatively impacted; and,

 

WHEREAS,  within the 2007 Fall Appropriations Process, several Student Organizations were neither contacted by their Sponsoring Senators for support, nor had a Sponsoring Senator present at the Appropriations interview and as such had incomplete and/or incorrect requests and were unprepared for the interview process; and,

 

WHEREAS,  Senators, pursuant to the Student Body Statutes ¤5-2.11, have a duty to actively support their assigned Student Organizations throughout the Appropriations process by serving as a resource and acting as an advocate during the interview process; now therefore be it,

 

ENACTED,   by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:

 

Section 1.        Student Body Statutes ¤5-2.11 shall be amended as follows:

 

(d) Insomuch as possible, Attend all presentations of their organization to the Appropriations Committee.

                        (e) Any Sponsoring Senator who fails to adhere to section (d), above, without prior notice to both their respective Student Organization and the chair of the Appropriations Committee, shall be given a half absence for each interview missed.

 

Section 2.        This act shall be effective upon enrollment.

 

Enacted:        The Student Body Treasurer in conjunction with the Finance Committee is authorized to spend no more than $300 dollars from line item 505, revolve technology, for any upgrade necessary.
