An act to SUBSTANTIALLY STRENGTHEN THE PENALTIES ASSOCIATED WITH ATHLETIC TICKET FRAUD AND SCALPING

WHEREAS, all students currently pay an Intercollegiate Athletics fee in part to cover the costs of student tickets to sporting events; and,
WHEREAS, several
students were recently discovered attempting to sell student tickets to the
N.C. State vs. UNC football game; and,
WHEREAS, such conduct is not only unlawful but is also unfair to students who legitimately attempted to obtain tickets and were unable to do so, as these other tickets were removed from the pool of distribution; and,
WHEREAS, the Student Government cannot continue to tolerate such unethical conduct; now, therefore be it
ENACTED, by
the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section 1. Student Body Statutes ¤9-1.10 shall be amended by striking and replacing the following:
(c) Sanctions. Any student caught mishandling
tickets will be issued the following penalties:
i. First
offense will result in the loss of eligibility for a student ticket for the
following five home games, with basketball and football seasons rolling over to
one another.
ii. Second
offense will result in the loss of eligibility for a football or basketball
student ticket for a full calendar year.
iii. Third
offense will result in the permanent forfeit of student ticket eligibility.
(c) Sanctions. Any student caught mishandling or scalping tickets will be
issued the following penalties:
i. First
offense will result in the loss of eligibility for a student ticket to any
revenue sporting event for a period of no less than twelve (12) months.
ii. Second
offense will result in the permanent forfeit of student ticket eligibility for
the remainder of the studentŐs enrollment at North Carolina State
University.
Section 2. This
act shall be effective upon its enrollment.
