A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTILED AN ACT TO EXTEND THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT BODY’S CONDOLENCES TO VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY

WHEREAS,   on April 16, 2007 at 7:15am, Cho Seung-Hui, a student at Virginia Tech shot and killed two innocent persons in the West Ambler Johnston Dormitory; and,

 

WHEREAS,   on the above date at 9:45am, police receive a call about a shooting at Virginia Tech’s Norris Hall, in which Cho Seung-Hui shot and killed 31 fellow students and faculty members on campus before taking his own life; and,

 

WHEREAS,   this senseless act of savagery has reverberated not only across the campus in Blacksburg but around the nation and even the world; and,

 

WHEREAS,   we members of the NC State community feel a certain sense of commonality between us and our fellow ACC member university commonly referred to as an ‘engineering school’; and,

 

WHEREAS,   we have hosted a candlelight vigil the evening of Tuesday, April 17, 2007, and certainly have had our minds on these devastating events ever since; and,

 

 

WHEREAS,   many fellow students, politicians, and others both nationally and internationally have come together to not only denounce the act but to comfort and console our fellow human beings; now therefore be it,


RESOLVED,  by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that we, on behalf of the Student Body, extend our deepest condolences to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, the we also support VA Tech President Charles Steger and Campus Police Chief W.R. Flinchum in their decisions surrounding these events and their continued efforts to rebuild the Virginia Tech community; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, that we, the NC State Student Government, offer any resources needed to assist in any needs that Virginia Tech may have in the future; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, that, upon adoption, copies of this bill be sent to the President of Virginia Tech, Charles Steger, and to the Virginia Tech Student Body President with this clause struck from the bill.
