AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ADJOURNMENT SINE DIE OF THE
Eighty-Eighth SESSION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE

WHEREAS, 88th session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate convened with Student Senate President Thomas Gregory ÒT GregÓ Doucette presiding, and Student Body President Johnny Lee ÒJayÓ Dawkins IV, Student Chief Justice Lock T Whiteside III, and Student Body Treasurer Scott Lassiter in attendance;
WHEREAS, in its first piece of legislation, we supported scholarships for CALS students in honor of Dr. Lynn Turner, and;
WHEREAS, we supported the expansion in the number of seats alloted to the N.C. State University Marching Band, and;
WHEREAS, we made our voices heard on student fees, while also getting a record number of direct votes from the Student Body via a non-binding referendum, and;
WHEREAS, we took a stand on mental health policy in relation to the proposed closing of Dorthea Dix Hospital, and;
WHEREAS, we took a stand against hate speech when "KKK" was chalked on in the brickyard in October, and;
WHEREAS, we were instrumental in creation of a spook hunger event during the Haunted Hillsborough Hike, and;
WHEREAS, we supported the creation, and won the approval for a "commuter" meal plan at NC State, and;
WHEREAS, after the election of the first African-American president caused incendiary remarks in our Free Expression Tunnel, we took a firm, reasonable stance against it, and;
WHEREAS, we also took action the strengthen our Elections Statutes, clarifying statutes and increasing financial reporting requirements, and;
WHEREAS, we also, for the first time in our 88 year history, codified the mission of the NC State Student Government, and;
WHEREAS, in honor of the late and beloved Kay Yow, coach of the women's basketball team, the senate passed by consent an act in appreciation of the years of service to NC State, and;
WHEREAS, we created the position of the SG Graphic Designer, and;
WHEREAS, we fully supported and encouraged NC State becoming a greener, more sustainable campus, and;
WHEREAS, we took a firm stance against mandatory hard waiver health insurance as currently proposed, and;
WHEREAS, we created an informational presentation to Senators regarding the appropriations process and outline a Senator's active role in the process, and;
WHEREAS, called for the Committee on Leadership Development to develop and administer a workshop explaining the active role of a Senator, aiming to increase Senators' understanding of procedure and increase productivity within the Senate, with all new Senators would be required to attend this workshop, and;
WHEREAS, we partnered with engineers from our engineering school to create a noise meter for our basketball and football games, and;
WHEREAS, we advocated the NCSU Libraries to hold textbooks in reserves for limited checkouts, and;
WHEREAS, we added a feedback link to our website to gather feedback on a near real time basis, and;
WHEREAS, we advocated for and started the process to put an actual bell in the belltower, and;
WHEREAS, we had the highest level of inter-branch unity in a number of years, and;
WHEREAS, through work with NC State Athletics, NC State Student Government succeeded in creating a stand-by line and for the first time in years Students completely filled the student sections at football games, and;
WHEREAS, Student Government's research and work to improve student entrances promoted ticketing reform at games allowing students to get into games earlier and more efficiently, and
WHEREAS, through its work with NC State Athletics, Student Government helped to institute loyalty points to the student ticketing system where dedicated fans were rewarded with better seats to help us cheer on both Basketball and Football, and;
WHEREAS, because of collaboration with Transportation and Student Government, the first Wolf Prowl bus ran in Spring of 2009 affording students a safe and sustainable way of supporting Downtown Raleigh Businesses, and;
WHEREAS, transportation will reinstitute the Student Carpool Program with added rewards thanks to the research of and collaboration with Student Government, and;
WHEREAS, we had a SG day in the brickyard, now, therefore be it;
RESOLVED, by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section 1. Any portions of the journal yet unapproved shall stand approved, effective five oÕclock PM, April 7, 2009. The Secretary shall provide an opportunity for online review and correction by all Senators, as provided for by Senate Rule.
Section 2. Pursuant to Senate Rule 4, the 88th Session of the North Carolina State University Student Senate shall stand adjourned sine die, effective at five oÕclock PM on Tuesday, the seventh of April, two thousand and nine.
Section 3. In the event of vetoes or crises, the Senate President shall be empowered to suspend sine die adjournment for a period up to one week for purposes of reconvening the Senate.
Section 4. In all cases where this act and the Standing Rules of the Senate may conflict, this act shall govern.
Section 5. This act is effective upon its adoption.
