A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO CREATE A STUDENT GOVERNMENT ÒSPOOK HUNGERÓ PHILANTHROPY EVENT

 


Short Title: The Spook Hunger Act

WHEREAS, thousands of students celebrated Halloween on Hillsborough Street last year; and,

 

WHEREAS, the event is anticipated to grow in size and popularity; and,

 

WHEREAS, the event has the potential to grow very large and go in a direction that adversely affects the community, but also has the potential to grow in a more positive direction; and,

 

WHEREAS, Chapel Hill officials are currently dealing with the consequences of a Halloween event gone wrong; and,

 

WHEREAS, we do not want to see a Halloween event on Hillsborough have negative impacts on the community and would like to surpass Chapel Hill where they have fallen short; and,

 

WHEREAS, in typical NC State fashion, students have found a way to ÒTrick or TreatÓ backwards by giving food to the community on Halloween night; now therefore be it; and,

 

WHEREAS, Student Government hasnÕt had a signature philanthropy event since ÒFeed RaleighÓ was dissolved; now therefore be it,

 

RESOLVED,  the Senate hereby supports the efforts of the Hillsborough Street Commission to create the ÒSpook HungerÓ program to collect canned food and donations for the homeless, and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, the Senate hereby encourages the Campus Community Committee and the Hillsborough Street Commission to collaborate so that ÒSpook HungerÓ is a successful event this year and for years to come.
