ENTILED AN ACT TO REAPPORTION SENATE SEATS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATUTES

WHEREAS, it
is the duty and responsibility of the student senate to reapportion seats
amongst the various colleges every three years pursuant to Student Body Statute
¤¤2-3.2; and,
WHEREAS, it
is in the best interest of individual colleges with more than three seats to determine
the manner in which they will divide their seats amongst their class ranks or
allow their seats to all be at large; and,
WHEREAS, in an effort to more fully represent constituents, the
senate will remove three seats from graduate senators to be equitably
redistributed to undergraduates; and,
WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 Apportionment Committee has acted as
follows using the following formula: 64 seats – 12 seats then college pop
/ University pop = % * 52 and reached the conclusion that new seats will be
apportioned as follows;
and,
WHEREAS, in the interest of freshmen senators the senate deems it
necessary to remove two seats from First-Year College to allow for an
appropriate influx of the incoming freshman class to be represented; now
therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the North
Carolina State University Student Senate shall amend Student Body Statute ¤¤2-3.5.to read
¤2-3.5. Current
apportionment.
Each School and
College, and class within the School or College, shall be represented by the
following number of Senators:
(a) First-year undergraduate students from
all Schools and Colleges – ten (10);
(b) CALS – nine (9);
(c) Design
– two (2);
(d) Education
– three (3);
(e) Engineering
– ten (10)
(f) Natural Resources – three (3);
(g) CHASS – eight (8);
(h) Management – five (5);
(i) PAMS – three
(3);
(j) Textiles – three (3);
(k) Graduate
– six (6);
(l) First-Year College – one (1); and
(m) Life-long Education
– one (1).
and be it
further,
RESOLVED, that the head of each college delegation will notify the apportionment chair of the majority decision of their delegation regarding how they will structure the division of their respective senate seats within one week; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that
the apportionment chair will submit a further bill to specify how each college
wishes to allocate seat's in time for the elections commissioner to structure
ballots for the Spring 2011 General Election; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that this bill will become effective upon enrollment.
