A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT PROVIDE OPTIONAL AND AFFORDABLE STUDENT HOUSING OVER MAJOR HOLIDAY BREAKS

 

 


Short Title: Affordable Housing Over Breaks Act

WHEREAS, Students living on-campus are required to vacate their residence halls during school holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Winter break; and,

 

WHEREAS, A significant portion of the student body of North Carolina State University is comprised of individuals with homes in places outside of North Carolina; and,

 

WHEREAS,There is no form of University-affiliated housing over these breaks; and,

 

WHEREAS,This lack of housing poses obvious logistical problems for the affected students; now therefore be it,

 

RESOLVED,That the North Carolina State Student Senate supports NC State University taking action to resolve this problem in a timely manner; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, That North Carolina State University should look into cooperating with hotels located in the campusí vicinity to host students over break, in a manner such that:

1)      There is a University-endorsed option for housing over breaks,

2)      Housing fees for students do not increase,

3)      The hotels benefit from publicity and endorsement by the University,

4)      The University benefits from the services provided by the hotels;

and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, That NC State University Student Government requests University Housing to come up with a solution to this problem within a period of six months; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, That this act shall be effective upon its enrollment.
