STATE UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS

WHEREAS, North Carolina State University is a public institution with over 30,000 students currently enrolled, and each individual student comes from a different background and origin; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University has made great strides in the past to become a more inclusive institution since its founding; and,
WHEREAS, The NCSU GLBT Center was vandalized on Monday, October 17th, 2011 in what was deemed by Campus Police as a hate incident; and,
WHEREAS, University Policy POL 04.25.05 Section 2.1 clearly states “Discrimination
is unequal and unlawful treatment based upon race, color, religion, creed, sex,
national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. In addition,
impermissible discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation would include
conduct or decisions in violation of the university's Sexual Orientation Policy
Statement.” ; and,
WHEREAS, In order for our University to continue to function successfully as both an academic institution and research facility, it is imperative that we not only recognize the different backgrounds and origins from which we come, but also embrace them; and,
WHEREAS, By accepting and embracing people from all genders, sexes, sexual
orientation, backgrounds, races, religions and creeds, we also create an
environment welcoming the top students, instructors, administrators and
athletes from around the globe; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, That the North Carolina State University Student Government shares the opinion that each member of the Wolfpack Family and visitor on our campus is accepted for who they are and not discriminated upon by others for their race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, disability, creed or veteran status; and be it further,
RESOLVED, That the North Carolina State University Student Government wholly embraces diversity and the many positive educational, social and professional attributes it brings to the university; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that this bill shall become effective upon enrollment.
