Summary of Purpose:
Change §7-1.14 to read Qualifications for Student Body Treasurer Candidates. Candidates for Student Body Treasurer shall be required to have no qualifications beyond the basic qualifications for office.

A BILL TO BE ENTILED AN ACT TO CHANGE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE STUDENT BODY TREASURER CANDIDATES

WHEREAS, §6-1.14. of the student body statutes reads:

 

Qualifications for Student Body Treasurer Candidates. 

Candidates for Student Body Treasurer will be required to meet the basic qualifications for office and in addition will meet at least one of the following further qualifications:

(a) The candidate will have served at least a majority of the scheduled Student Senate meetings in any given year by the close of filing.

(b) The candidate will have served as a department level official in the Department of the Treasury; and,

 

WHEREAS, §6-1.12. of the student body statutes reads:

 

Qualifications for Student Body President Candidates. 

Candidates for Student Body President shall be required to have no qualifications beyond the basic qualifications for office; and,

 

WHEREAS,  Historically, only 1 or 2 candidates run for treasurer; and,

 

WHEREAS,  Increased competition will increase the treasurer’s quality of service; and,

 

WHEREAS, Voters, not Student Government, should decide the importance of experience within NC State Student Senate; and,

 

WHEREAS, International and transfer students may have pertinent SG experience, but statutes does not recognize experience outside of NC State Student Government; now therefore be it,

 

RESOLVED, That §6-1.14 be amended to read:

                     

 §6-1.14 Qualifications for Student Body Treasurer Candidates. 

Candidates for Student Body Treasurer shall be required to adhere to one of the following requirements:

(a) The candidate will have attended (present for both roll calls) at least a majority of the scheduled Student Senate meetings in any given year by the close of filing.

(b)   The candidate will have served as a department level official in the Department of the Treasury.

(c)   The candidate will have served as a member of the Presidential Cabinet in the Executive Branch of Student Government.
