TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO STATE STUDENT SENATE’S POSITION ON THE UNIVERSITY
RECREATION FEE INCREASE

WHEREAS, University Recreation has requested a fee increase to take effect
the 2012-2013 school year; and,
WHEREAS, University Recreation is in charge of managing the Carmichael Complex (which includes the Carmichael Gym, Carmichael Rec Center, and the Casey Aquatic Center), Club and Intermural Sports, Outdoor Adventures, as well as Special Events and Fitness programs; and,
WHEREAS, University Rec accomplishes this task by being one of the largest employers of students at NC State University, managing the use and upkeep of Lower Miller Fields, Method Road Park, and the Centennial Campus Disk Golf Course; and,
WHEARAS, University Rec is requesting an increase of $13.17 to take effect beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, which would bring their total fee to $142.27; and,
WHEREAS, the stated reasoning for this increase is to provide longer hours at the Carmichael facilities, hiring of more students to work those increased hours, allow for more fitness classes to be offered free of charge to students, and prepare for expansion options on Centennial Campus, as well as preparing for upcoming expansions and improvements to the Carmichael Complex; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, the Student Senate supports a fee increase of $13.17 for University Recreation beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year.
