WHEREAS, Student Government supports engaging students in traditions on North Carolina State University’s campus; and,
WHEREAS, Campout, one of North Carolina State University’s oldest and most
loved traditions, usually gave students the opportunity to come together with
friends and camp out in the freezing cold for an opportunity to earn a ticket
to the most rivaled NCSU vs. UNC basketball game; and,
WHEREAS, with the ACC implementing the partnership of schools, NCSU and UNC
are no longer guaranteed to play UNC at home every year, forcing a potential
end to one of NCSU’s most honored traditions; and,
WHEREAS, in order to save the tradition, Student Government, with the
encouragement of the Department of Athletic, has moved the event to the PNC
Arena to be held in conjunction with the Red and White game, which introduces
the basketball team; and,
WHEREAS, the changes in the event have caused the budget to rise by nearly
twelve times what is normally provided by NCSU Student Government, who normally
partners with other student organizations to give students the most memorable
of experiences; and,
WHEREAS, this year, Campout is being paid for almost in full by the
Department of Athletics; and,
WHEREAS, Student Government would like to show its continued support to Campout traditions and athletics by helping to provide NCSU students with an event that they deserve; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate will help finance Campout, which will be attended by up to 3,500 students on October 12th, 2012; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that the $3,500 to fund this initiative will be taken from the Finance Committee; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that all remaining funds from the request shall be returned to the Finance Committee if they are not used to fund Campout; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that Student Senate encourages other organizations on campus to also participate in funding Campout to meet the high student demand and foster campus unity in the traditions that have shaped our university thus far; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that this bill shall be effective upon enrollment.
