TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO RECOMMEND THE CREATION OF A CHANCELLOR'S LIST PROGRAM

WHEREAS, North Carolina State University strives to recognize students with strong academic achievements and encourage their continued hard work; and,
WHEREAS, the Dean's List program currently recognizes students with a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 while enrolled in 15 or more credit hours and 3.5 while enrolled in 12 to 14 credit hours; and,
WHEREAS, while achieving the standards of the Dean's List is a commendable achievement for many students, it is appropriate to further recognize students who achieve even greater levels of success; and,
WHEREAS, a Chancellor’s List is a form of semester honors, similar to a Dean’s List, but with more stringent requirements such as a higher minimum GPA, or higher minimum grade requirement; and,
WHEREAS, North Carolina State University peer institutions and other UNC system schools offer Chancellor's List honors (alternatively known as “Dean's List with Distinction” or “President's Honor Roll” honors) with minimum requirements ranging from a 3.65 GPA to a 4.0 GPA; now therefore be it,
RESOLVED, that the Student Senate recommends the creation of a North Carolina State University Chancellor's List program; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that the Student Senate recommends the Chancellor's List be established with minimum requirements of a 3.8 GPA for students taking 15 or more credit hours and a 4.0 GPA for students taking 12 to 14 credit hours; and be it further,
RESOLVED, that this bill shall become effective upon its enrollment.
