89TH SESSION, 2009-2010
COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. CC-04
Committee Minutes, Wednesday, October 21st 2009
Senator Arialle K. Crabtree submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Tuesday, October 27th 2009, on behalf of the Campus Community Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, October 21st 2009 recommendations:
Attendance:
There were seven (7) members (Blanchard, Bower, Center, Crabtree, Donnelly, Mills, Stackhouse) present.
There were no members absent.
A quorum was present.
Meeting Overview:
We followed the agenda and discussed Campus Community related issues.
Meeting Minutes:
Arialle: Due to the number of guest at this meeting I am referring the committee to receive updates from the agenda.
Accepted Sam’s resignation
Tim Lipka (guest Deputy Chief of Staff) : the ticketing you got last meeting, any questions? As soon as it gets Arialle’s approval it will go into effect. The ticketing rule is basically codifying what happens with ticketing. This draft rule limits the ability for the student body president to make events loyalty point events. To add or subtract loyalty points, the chairman has final say. If the chairperson objects it is sent to the whole committee and then to senate if objected by the committee. You only get points for revenue games. This will only effect loyalty points that are under student government. People were concerned that we were making too many random things loyalty point offering events.
45 minutes before? The people who get into the games are 2 points ahead rather than one
Lipka: that’s outside the boundaries of the rule, all this is establishing what you can get loyalty points for
This will be in effect until another rule or statute removes it.
Diversity (Diversity Commissioner Jeremy Cooper) : working on multicultural week, trying to get as many ethnic groups as possible to participate. Trying to get a field day together, working on Native American powwow. Getting a diversity speaker on campus, someone with a good message , working on logo and message. Original plan was to paint over negative things in the free expression tunnel.
Brad Kennedy (Publicity Commissioner): we are planning an aggressive press strategy to counteract the misinformation and reach out to students. We are going to have a radio spot on WKNC airing 5 days a week, this will be student governments official stance on things. The point is to build our credibility. We are also getting bi-weekly youtube videos about what is going on in senate. We are also going to try to get a column in the technician and/or Nubian message. Creating spot for chairmen on the website, publicize feedback page.
For spook hunger we partnered with IRC, and that’s really how we are going to get help, by pairing with bigger organizations.
Arialle: I encourage everyone to continue to pursue ideas and issues which Campus Community can work on. Also, we will be trying to contact Student Organizations to receive feedback on Student Government, Appropriations, and SORC office.
