FINANCE BILL 46

Senator Kelsey Mills submitted the following report regarding Finance Bill 46, "A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO PRIMETIME WITH THE PACK CAMPOUT 2012", to the Student Senate on Sunday, September 30th 2012, on behalf of the Finance Committee, and pursuant to its Friday, September 28th 2012 recommendations, with 6 members voting in the affirmative, 0 in the negative, and 1 having abstained from voting:

As provided by Senate Rule, the committee requests that the Senate President place Finance Bill 46, on the calendar for second reading.

Attendance:

There were seven (7) members (Cyrus, Gaskins, McDowell, McLean, Mills, Patel, Rackl) present. There was also one (1) non-voting member (Murray) present.

There were no members absent.

The following official was also present: Barker.

A quorum was present.

Purpose of Legislation:

To provide additional funding to Primetime with the Pack Campout.

Background Information:

In previous years Campout has typically had an overall cost of about $10,000. This year with the new venue and great student participation allowed, the budget is approximately $65,000. Athletics is covering $55,000 and has asked Student Government to fund the rest of the event. We already line-item $4,500 from the SG budget towards the event, which leaves $6,500 to be covered. The executive branch has been reaching out to other organizations and local companies for sponsorship, but with Campout only 2 weeks away, it is important to have secure funding for the event. All funds not spent will come back to Finance committee.

Debate:

Exec has brought in about $3000 in sponsorship, giving SG's donation a total of $7,500. The committee debated whether to give $3000 or $3500 so as to include funding for emergencies should they arise.

Recommendations:

The committee sends the amended bill back favorably.

Committee Amendments:

The committee amended the funding amount from $4,000 to $3,500.
